NYFW Premiere: Jennifer Fisher

September 9, 2015

Jennifer Fisher knows how to stage a great event—think the chic gathering she hosted with Fivestory’s Claire Distenfeld at Caviar Kaspia during Paris Fashion Week in March.

This evening, the jewelry designer will take it to the next level when she unveils her newest collection in the Meatpacking District – a moment that means a lot to her first time during New York Fashion Week: Women’s. Fisher isn’t a complete stranger to the fashion circuit. She has shown her collections at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s Americans in Paris showroom in the past, but she deliberately waited to take the NYFW plunge.

“I wanted to give myself enough time with the jewelry to really feel that I was ready to do it when I wanted to do it and how I wanted to do it,” said Fisher, who called this “the perfect time” to show given the strength and growth trajectory of her business, which launched in 2005. “I think jewelry designers feel they don’t get enough attention when they show during fashion week so I wanted to come out of the box and do something different,” she added.

Inspired by the Whack-A-Mole arcade game that she loved as a child, Fisher conceived a long table with 24 computerized pedestals that move up and down and reveal her new costume jewelry pieces at different times. “I thought it would be interesting to create something that moves, as there no models,” she said. “In this day of social media, Instagram and Snapchat, people look for something interesting socially so I am catering to that too.”

American Express partnered with Jennifer Fisher this fashion week season, providing Card Members with a conversation between Fisher and Prabal Gurung and a special preview of the installation and collection tonight.

For the designs, the former stylist was inspired by knitted lines and de Kooning paintings and went for pieces that “felt clean.” “I always say to everybody that I want my pieces to be worn again and again,” she said.

That will definitely be the case unless someone whacks the jewelry at the presentation—though such scenario is less likely. As Fisher pointed out, “We have a guard!”
