New York Fashion Week: Men’s ended with a heady show from Raf Simons, titled Youth in Motion and inspired inspired by Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo, the cult German book and movie on a real-life teen who became a heroin addict and prostitute around this notorious area in then-West Berlin.
She and junkie boyfriend Detlef, coupled with other drug references, set the vibe among an impressive set that culled from mid-Century couture houses and Flemish paintings via bottles of wine, food and flowers. The clothes were ultra-cool. Simons graphically played with bright colors and image, and accessorized looks with bib-like knit sweaters as scarves.
A statement from the designer clarified that this in no way glorified or condoned the use of narcotics. Part of proceeds from the collection’s sales will go to organizations that support addicts in recovery.
Other noteworthy collections on the final day of men’s shows included Boss, Moon Choi, Landlord, and Palmiers du Mal. Click through to see our favorite looks of the day.
