A powerful picture of America emerged on Tuesday from two designers whose idea of this country was shaped outside of it. In his show notes, Calvin Klein’s Raf Simons referenced “the discovery of America, the 1960s Space Race, and the twenty-first century information age.” That, and the idea of freedom, led to a fascinating lineup of fashion with a capital F — thought-provoking, provocative, and, when taken apart, full of beautiful pieces for women and men that push the fashion narrative forward.
Earlier, Stuart Vevers took on Americana via “the tension between New York City and the American Southwest,” which the British designer interpreted via leather jackets, languid prairie dresses, bandana prints and the vintage Coach logo.
