Designers enjoy a journey—whether it’s an actual destination or something more abstract in their heads. On Monday, Ralph Lauren looked to Round Hill, Jamaica, where he owns a villa, for inspiration. He kicked off with a procession of blue and white looks on barefoot models, then evolved by way of American symbolism and Cap d’Antibes logos. Our favorite exits in this see-now-buy-now show were by model siblings Bella and Anwar Hadid. Phillip Lim’s travel bug was less direct and more nomadic in spirit, while Anna Sui ventured into Sixties couture replete with models doing halfway runway spins.
Other notable collections included Oscar de la Renta, where Laura Garcia and Fernando Garcia showed their strongest collection to date, and Derek Lam. Carolina Herrera concluded Day Eight with an emotional show – her last – culminating in procession of models in her signature style— a crisp white shirt teamed with a belted ball skirt. It was a poignant finale and a perfect way to hand the reins over to Wes Gordon.
