NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Neon Wigs, Vibrant Ballgowns, and Studio 54 Make an Appearance At NYFW

February 15, 2019

There was no shortage of creativity at New York Fashion Week. Rosie Assoulin showcased her signature statement eveningwear at an intimate presentation, Anna Sui brought neon back in style with her “Poptimistic” collection, and Michael Kors brought a piece of Studio 54 to Cipriani at 11 AM in the morning. Take a look back at some of the best moments of the NYFW Fall-Winter 2019 season.

The designer’s signature bold silhouettes and statement eveningwear have captivated women who are confident in their fashion choices. But this season, Assoulin also impressed with beautiful daywear, such as crisp cotton shirts and plaid suiting that are sure to add a new layer to her devoted followers.

Michael Kors turned Cipriani Wall Street into a disco party – think Studio 54, only this was at 10 in the morning. Kors felt nostalgic for his own youth in the 1970s – witness the wavy hair, oversized aviator sunglasses, and sequin gowns ready to do the hustle. Patti Hansen, a Studio regular, closed the show, and she followed by Barry Manilow belting out “Copacabana.” It was a perfect way to kick off the last day.

Supermodels Kaia Gerber and Bella Hadid were almost unrecognizable in their super-saturated, brightly-colored wigs – which added to Anna Sui’s “Poptimistic” collection. Looks included neon mini-dresses and suits in bright floral brocade. The collection was inspired by Victor Moscoso’s psychedelic posters and Mary Blair’s fanciful storyboards for Walt Disney. We love Anna, and we loved this nod to the 1960s.

Marc Jacobs opted for a far more intimate setting this season – though he lost none of the grandeur his collections are known for. Set in the Park Avenue Armory, only around 180 seats were allotted for a tight group of editors, friends, and VIP attendees. When the show began – this season, promptly at 6 PM – there was an abundance of feathers, ruffles, bright colors in the concise 40 look collection. There was even a rare runway appearance from supermodel Christy Turlington, who gave NYFW a proper ending in a particularly ravishing black gown destined for the red carpet.
