Here is a fact you may find astounding. Worldwide, nearly one in 10 people – about 663 million – don’t have access to clean drinking water. It’s something Monique Péan became aware of when she met Scott Harrison, the founder of charity: water, 12 years ago, roughly around the time she was launching her jewelry business.
The meeting was an education and inspired the CFDA member to work with charity: water to help to solve the global water crisis.
“Over the years, we have constructed clean drinking water wells and sanitation projects in six countries, serving over 6,150 people all over the globe,” Péan said.
And now, she is proud to share important news. “Through proceeds generated from sales in 2019 and in partnership with charity: water and Clear Cambodia, we are funding the construction of a clean drinking water well and sanitation facility at a school in rural Cambodia, where nearly 80 percent of the population resides without clean safe water,” Péan said.
While Cambodia has plenty of available groundwater, much of it is unsafe for consumption, and many ponds or open wells contaminated – with human waste, arsenic and E. coli bacteria, and industrial runoff.
And Péan’s commitment to clean water will continue.
“The inspiring news,” she said, “is that the global water crisis can be solved in our lifetime!”
