The climate crisis is reaching a more fervent pitch than ever before. With fires still blazing in California – the largest in the state’s history – they have tinted the sky orange and polluted the air quality. They have even killed many.
For Los Angeles designer Alexia Elkaim, founder of emerging label Miaou, sustainability is at the top of her mind. The launch of her latest capsule collection is accompanied by a brand sustainbility report that detauls exactly how Miaou is minimizing its carbon footprint. The report details how the brand is using biodegradable and deadstock fabrics, utilizes biodegradable eco-poly packaging and mailers for all orders, and is opting for digitally printed analog alternatives to minimize waste from ink or dyes.
Miaou has also leaned into repurposing archival collections and selling excessive stock via reselling app Depop, while donating a percentage of all proceeds to Oceana.
Miaou is an example on how brand transparency is key in the fight towards a sustainable future.
And to model the newest collection, Elkaim has brought in friends and fans of the brand Paloma Elsesser, Lourdes Leon, and Ashley Smith.
