Menswear That Pushed Boundaries at Past CFDA Awards

May 30, 2019

The 2019 CFDA Fashion Awards will see light at the turn of next week and, with the ceremony, the roster of menswear nominees featuring Mike Amiri, Pyer Moss, Virgil Abloh, Thom Browne, and Rick Owens. With bases covered from cult streetwear to precision-tailoring to thought-provoking avant-garde, we foresee a diverse set of looks to walk the carpet Monday evening.

With excruciating patience and eager anticipation, we take a look back to honor some blasts from the past who’ve graced the award ceremony. Across tuxedo shorts on Matt Baldwin to a dusty rose number by Alessandro Michele, the men have proven fully capable of turning looks and turning a head or two in the process.

See below for a roundup of the best men’s looks to appear at the CFDA Awards.

Børns

Matt Baldwin alongside wife, Emily Baldwin, rocked his take on summer suiting.

Virgil Abloh kept casual with a collegiate sweater, but subtly formal with a belt and a tuck – always focused on the details.

More is more is more – seen here by Di Mondo.

André Leon Talley

Thaddeus O’Neil shimmered in shades of blue, adding extra depth with some play on texture.

The Fat Jewish

Alexander Skarsgard stood tall and poised in a polka-dot number.

Roberto Rossellini

Dwayne Wade

Need we say more?

The King of Camp donned a dusty rose number with glimmering embellishments because of course, more is in fact more.
