Melitta Baumeister and Nike Push the Boundaries of Sportswear

November 6, 2026

At first glance, Melitta Baumeister and Nike may seem like an unexpected pairing – but their newest collaboration cements a natural common language around her distinctive sculptural approach to activewear.

The new head-to-toe collection speaks to the designer’s experimental design language and fascination with form and movement. At its heart is the Rift Rocker, a bold reinterpretation of Nike’s unconventional Rift silhouette. Unlike Baumeister’s previous collaborations on the Vomero and Pegasus, this design introduces an entirely new form. The designer sculpted the midsole by hand in clay at her studio, drawing inspiration from automotive design and ceramics. Hand imprints, clay-sculpted eyelets, and an MB Swoosh on the waffle outsole preserve the designer’s personal touch.

The ready-to-wear pieces are equally expressive. A sculptural tracksuit features a twisted jacket and dramatically curved trousers with structured, boned legs that create the illusion of movement even at rest. A playful clay-nose keychain adds an unexpected finishing touch. An oversized reversible puffer jacket, meanwhile, explores the intersection of fashion and functionality via concealed hand-drawn graphics and underarm openings. The jacket transforms into a backpack.

Throughout the collection, Baumeister’s hand is evident in the smallest details, from zipper pulls to snaps and cord stops, each originally shaped in clay by the designer herself.

Equally inspiring is the campaign starring multidisciplinary artist Kembra Pfahler.

The result is a compelling dialogue between artisanal craftsmanship, innovative design, and Nike’s technical expertise, bringing Baumeister’s singular creative vision to a new dimension of sportswear.
