In the last 24 hours, we got the first glimpse of Melania Trump’s fashion approach to her First Lady role – think American and CFDA.
Trump first showed some CFDA love for Thursday night’s dinner at Union Station in Washington, when she chose a gold-embroidered dress by our Member Reem Acra. Though the design featured a high neck and long sleeves, the form-fitting nature of the look evoked red carpet glamour.
For the church service and inauguration earlier today, the First Lady wore an elegant pale blue cashmere jacket and dress by Board Member Ralph Lauren, whose company issued the statement, “The Presidential Inauguration is a time for the United States to look our best to the world. It was important to us to uphold and celebrate the tradition of creating iconic American style for this moment.”
It wasn’t just the First Lady who raised the flag for American Fashion. First Daughter Ivanka Trump wore an Oscar de la Renta gown for Thursday’s dinner, and a Carolina Herrera coat and dress for the inauguration. And now-former First Lady Michelle Obama stunned in a red Jason Wu dress during the ceremony.
We asked illustrator Ellie Benuska to put her artistic touch to the First Lady looks.
