BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Meet Sole Folks, the South-Central LA Non-Profit for Promising Design Talent

February 25, 2021

Karyl J. Truesdale

Sole Folks –based in the historic, affluent Leimart Park section of central Los Angeles – is a non-profit, creative, retail co-op founded by Akil West, Taz Arnold, and Nika King.

West and Arnold are demiurgic entrepreneurs with multi-faceted backgrounds rooted in Hollywood, from music, digital media, and acting to modeling, film, photography, and fashion, and grassroots programming serving the community of South-Central Los Angeles. King, known from the HBO hit series Euphoria, is an independent business woman with her own Hollywood footprint.

Sole Folks was created to serve and equip promising design impresarios from marginalized communities with a mentorship and professional think tank incubator to realize their innovations and nourish a path to a promising future.

Although this endeavor built by West, Arnold and King is in its infancy stage,  the tenacity of this magnetic trio will turn promise into reality for Black creatives and designers who previously lacked a space or institution to thrive in and reach a plateau that may have appeared unattainable at best.

Wishing Sole Folks continued success!
