Twenty years ago, Ballroom Marfa came into creation by Fairfax Dorn and Virginia Lebermann in that very special rural town in Far West Texas that has inspired artist Donald Judd and everyone else who has ever been.
On Wednesday evening, Ballroom Marfa celebrated its 20th Anniversary Gala at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine. For the occasion, it honored Allison Sarofim, founding board member, philanthropist, fabulous party host, and esteemed member of Friends of the CFDA, as well as and artist and board member Leo Villareal, who created the created a special light installation that added even more drama to the vaulted ceilings of the majestic Morningside Heights cathedral.
Cynthia Rowley, Lisa Perry, Wes Gordon, Adam Lippes, Rebekah McCabe, Lauren Santo Domingo, Anne McNally, Joe Jonas, Anh Duong, Carlos Souza, Kevin Sharkey, Trey Laird, Jamie Tisch, Carlos Mota, Stefano Tonchi, Daissy Olarte de Kavanos, Bronson van Wick, came out to celebrate the moment.
“One of our first meetings was with Yvonne Force to discuss Prada Marfa, which we did with the Art Production fund,” Texas-born Sarofim, who wore a chic, off-white Tom Ford ensemble, for the occasion, recalled. “I was sold, all in, and I never looked back.”
“At the Ballroom, we chose to look through a different lens,” she added. “We forged our own path. We didn’t abide by the rules, and most importantly, in my opinion, we didn’t fall prey to the futile pursuit of comparison. We did it our way, the Ballroom way.”
We couldn’t imagine a better way!
