The rare, exquisite beauty of winter gardens inspired Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig for their Fall brides. The duo called upon the icier elements, ushering in several sparkling signatures for cool new brides this season. As the designers explained via email: “The Marchesa bride craves newness and comes to us for something different.”
Make no mistake, there were the same rich embellishments the house is known for. But they looked as light as ever and also served to underscore the designers’ skill and craftsmanship with a sequin. This season’s ethereal theme was particularly soft and allowed room for sumptuous details, like laser-cut velvet and petal feathered hemlines.
Meanwhile, the crisp palette gave way to an unexpected pop of color in the form of vibrant cherry blossom, which the designers explained was meant to represent spring’s thaw. It certainly felt like a breath of fresh air in a sea or winter white.
There were also some familiar touches present. While veils have always been a hit at Marchesa, the label recently began experimenting with specific veils to suit each dress, based on the idea that it lends a more finished look. This season, they took it one step further by offering a mix of abbreviated blushers and cathedral lengths—even throwing in a hand-embroidered lace cape for stylish good measure. All would look particularly great in a winter wonderland wedding setting.
Chapman and Craig also reimagined the red-hot gown that Rita Ora wore to the 2017 Met Gala in an off-the-shoulder dress spun from whisper-sheer pebble organza with a dramatic bow detail. The British pop star was the first to wear the intricate draping technique, and with Fall 2019, Marchesa brides can now create their very own red carpet moment down the aisle.
