Fern Mallis and Stan Herman – colleagues at the CFDA for many years – will reunite on stage at the 92Y when Mallis, as part of her Fashion Icons series, talks to the designer about his life, career and everything else you always wanted to know about Stan but didn’t dare to ask—among them, Herman’s age.
“It will be the first time that Fern will tell everybody how old I am and it will be the truth—not all the lies I have said all those years,” Herman told CFDA.com with a smile.
And age won’t be the only topic of conversation for the designer, who has witnessed major moments of American fashion, pioneered home shopping, created uniforms for major companies, and spent 15 years as President of the CFDA, during which time the fashion show tents were created at Bryant Park, and Herman developed and solidified his relationship with American designers.
“It’s really going to be a talk about my life, from the very beginning. You know the line [Estelle Getty] uses in Golden Girls when she says “Picture this?” There will be many “Picture this” moments. I told Fern there are no holds barred. If she wants to talk about sex, if she wants to talk about anything, I have nothing to hide. She is always saying to me that for a guy who had a 40-year relationship, which I did, how could you have had so much sex?”
“I do know Stan’s life pretty well. He has great stories. He has great history,” Mallis said. “I will probably try to surprise him because it’s more fun when he doesn’t know the question.”
