July 10, 2018

A partnership between CFDA and Cartoon Network led to an exciting new capsule collection courtesy of Ryohei Kawanishi of Landlord. On Monday evening, the designer unveiled looks inspired by animated series Adventure Time on his Spring-Summer 2019 runway at Cadillac House on Monday evening. We caught up with Ryohei on the capsule, why he loved it, and more on Landlord.

What were your first thoughts when you heard about this opportunity?

It was great opportunity to work with such huge scale comapny.

What appealed to you about working with Cartoon Network?

It is exciting for me to mix our audience and audience of Adventure Time in fashion context.

Tell us about the philosophy behind Landlord.

No philosophy as philosophy.

You manufacture your entire line in the US, why is that important to you and what are the benefits of doing that?

It’s nice to work so closely with our sewers and to know them personally. It is also a fun challenge to see how we can push the limits of our capabilities to keep producing as much as we can locally.

How were you able to incorporate Adventure Time into your spring collection?

The bright colors of Adventure Time fit nicely into the theme the collection. We played with layering details on garments this season, so we were able to play with layering phrases and characters from the show on the clothes.

What was your favorite part of this project?

We haven’t worked with graphics and embroidery like this before so it was fun to apply more processes to garments in order to incorporate the characters and their catchphrases.
