Lafayette 148 has proudly partnered with Save Venice – the leading American non-profit dedicated to preserving and promoting the artistic heritage of Venice, Italy – on the restoration of ground-breaking female painter Giulia Lama’s early-18th-century masterpiece Virgin in Prayer.

The large-scale oil painting comes from the church of Santa Maria Assunta in the small village of Malamocco, on the Lido of Venice. The restoration was undertaken as part of Save Venice’s “Women Artists of Venice” program, which is leading the way in identifying, restoring and recognizing the overlooked accomplishments of historic women artists in Venice – including Giulia Lama, whose life and career received little attention until the 20th century.

“Since our beginnings among the gallery culture of ’90s SoHo, New York, Lafayette 148 has cultivated a longstanding appreciation for art and craftsmanship, and supporting female artists is built into our DNA,” Emily Smith, Lafayette 148 creative director, said in the brand’s resort 2025 editorial book. “It’s one of many reasons I was so thrilled to partner with the non-profit Save Venice and become the first luxury fashion house to sponsor a restoration in their ‘Women Artists of Venice’ program of ground-breaking early 18th-century painter Giulia Lama’s masterpiece Virgin in Prayer.”

The artwork and restoration also inspired the Lafayette 148 x Save Venice standalone capsule collection, which features a collaged abstract interpretation of the painting’s color palette, printed upon a silky velvet suit, dress, skirt and top, as well as upon a plissé dress, skirt, top and pant, and a long chiffon dress and scarf. A percentage of proceeds will go to Save Venice.
