Those old enough to remember Amy Sacco’s Lot 61 in far West Chelsea may have reminisced a little on Monday night. Whether intended or not, the Opening Party of New York Fashion Week: Men’s and celebration of The Dockers Brand’s 30th Anniversary at Artbeam had the energy of the ultra-cool Nineties haunt—replete with the right mix of music and crowd, which included NYFW: Men’s ambassadors Johannes Huebl, Victor Cruz, Matt Harvey, Eric Decker and Shaun T. The latter, who is a celebrity fitness trainer, motivator and choreographer, explained his interest in fashion. “I am always in sweats,” he said, “So it’s good for me to come out and see people and things other than sweats.
“I think we are going to inspire a lot of people,” he added of NYFW: Men’s, “Which is what I do every day.”
Others at the event included Instagram sensation Dr. Mike with Devon Windsor, Tyson Beckford, and designers Todd Snyder to Nick Graham, Ariel and Shimon Ovadia, Matthew and Alex Orley, and David Hart, to name a few.
“I am having a really good time seeing all my peers,” said Siki Im, who is showing his fall-winter 2016 collection on Thursday. “It is super-nice how everyone comes together for men’s. I came here to say hi and then I have to go back to fittings.”
Womenswear designer Prabal Gurung roamed the space with a friend – with a purpose. As he put it, “I am here to see what happens in the men’s world.”
Lots, judging by the strong launch of NYFW: Men’s.
