The KAM sneaker in black, with black Swarovski crystals.
Kenneth Cole, the first recipient of the Swarovski Award for Positive Change at the 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards in June, knows a thing or two about doing good. He’s devoted his entire career to both designing and social activism, and to commemorate his Swarovski Award, he’s created something very special: a limited-edition collection of KAM gold or black sneakers featuring Swarovski crystals. The $595 design is exclusively available at Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship and for this who didn’t get them in time for the holiday, there are plenty of reasons to continue the festive glitter in the New Year! We asked Cole about the sneaker, the Swarovski Award, and his New Year’s Resolutions.
What’s your favorite thing about the crystal sneaker?
The KAM sneaker is a true modern classic that already has so much versatility. Adding the Swarovski crystals makes the shoe a little more glamorous and allows you to wear it from day to evening.
Which celebrity/VIP do you want to see wearing them?
I would love to see anyone who is passionate about social advocacy and humanitarian work wearing the shoes as the main goal of using the Swarovski crystals was to commemorate the Swarovski Award for Positive Change. It’s always great to see someone who puts their foot-wear it will make a difference.
How has the Swarovski Award for Positive Change impacted you and your outlook?
I was humbled to receive the Swarovski Award for Positive Change. I believe that I have been able to do so much of what I do because of the enthusiastic encouragement and support of the fashion industry. It means a lot for the industry to recognize a company that has always been determined to “do well” and “do good.”
