Kenneth Cole, CFDA Partner for New Innovation Award

November 20, 2015

Today, Kenneth Cole and CFDA announced the launch of the inaugural Kenneth Cole Footwear + Accessory Innovation Award.

A post-graduate program, the Award focuses on men’s and/or women’s accessory design – specifically, footwear and handbags – and aims to encourage design specialization and interest in community-based social initiatives.  Senior-year design students of invited CFDA Educational Initiatives schools will be asked to create a portfolio featuring a handbag or footwear collection replete with a fully-developed brand concept and a social or community-based element.

Through a competitive selection process, at least one BFA or BA fashion design graduate with the best portfolio presentation will be identified and awarded the distinction of Kenneth Cole Footwear + Accessory Innovation Fellow with a 12-month, full-time, post-graduate placement within Kenneth Cole Productions.

“The CFDA is honored to partner with CFDA Emeritus Board Member Kenneth Cole on this impactful fashion education initiative celebrating Accessory Design and social entrepreneurship,” said Sara Kozlowski, Director of Education and Professional Development at the CFDA. “Kenneth’s heritage of innovation underpins his iconic American brand legacy, longstanding commitment to philanthropic stewardship and exemplary humanitarian contributions as Chair of amfAR and within the Kenneth Cole Foundation. The program will challenge students of leading schools to create empowered awareness and social change while providing access to practical yet specialized skill building within footwear and handbag design.”

The program features a $1 million commitment to the CFDA over five years.
