Resident and friends of Brooklyn – and we know there are many – should take note: the borough has proclaimed June 4 as its Council of Fashion Designers of America Day.
On Wednesday, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams announced that he will celebrate the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards in Partnership with Swarovski with this special proclamation.
The CFDA Fashion Awards take place in Brooklyn for the first time this year. Adams made the proclamation on the steps of the Brooklyn Museum, and was joined by CFDA Chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA President and CEO Steven Kolb, and Anne Pasternak, the museum’s Shelby White and Leon Levy Director.
“Brooklyn has become the most exciting of New York’s boroughs,” von Furstenberg said. “It attracts creatives of all fields including fashion from around the world. We are very excited to bring the CFDA Fashion Awards to Brooklyn, and to be honoring and celebrating the best of American fashion at the Brooklyn Museum this year.”
Adams said that Brooklyn has a “passion for fashion. We are excited to welcome the Council of Fashion Designers of America to the County of Kings as they prepare to host their annual fashion awards at the Brooklyn Museum. Our style is second-to-none, and our commitment to cultivating our fashion industry is nothing less, from our support of Fashion Week Brooklyn to our capital investment in the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator.”
We can’t wait to celebrate the best of American fashion in Brooklyn on June 4th!
