Look for the New York Fashion Week: Women’s campaign popping up around Manhattan and Brooklyn in time for the shows. This season, CFDA and Paper magazine worked with JUCO Photo to assemble models in some of the best American clothes from Prabal Gurung, Rag & Bone, Mara Hoffman, John Elliott, Tibi, Sally LaPointe, Marc Jacobs, and Tome.
Julia Galdo and Cody Cloud, who first met at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2002 and started collaborating on class assignments, are the forces behind Los Angeles-based JUCO. For the NYFW campaign. Galdo pointed to the collaboration with Paper’s Theron Long, “who had envisioned a bright and colorful campaign.” As Cloud put it, “The Rainbow!”
The campaign fits in well with JUCO’s aesthetic ethos. “The campaign is lit very clean and bright, which is part of our personal aesthetic, “ Galdo said. “We are also known for color, which is a realm we like to play in.”
A favorite was the team on hand — “shooting Aly Ndiaye and getting to work with Adele Cany,” said Cloud.
Galdo added, “Aly was a very exciting part of our shoot. However, collaborating with all involved was very neat and were happy to be involved with the project.”
As for American Fashion, each has their own take.
“I think of American Fashion as classic which is an excellent quality to possess and one we strive to achieve,” Galdo said.
Cloud has a more personal point of view: “American fashion helps elevate my personal aesthetic a lot because I’m a cowboy at heart.”
