John Bartlett is the new Director of Fashion for Executive and Professional Studies (CPE) at The New School’s Continuing and Professional Education (CPE). He will officially start on July 10, 2023.

In the new role, the menswear designer, who is a CFDA member and a pioneer in sustainability in fashion, will lead the division’s  fashion executive education. This includes curriculum development, industry outreach, strategic partnerships, teaching and learning for Parsons Executive Education and the Luxury Management and Design Innovation (EMILUX) joint program with ESSEC Business School, according to a New School statement.

“I’m excited to join The New School’s Continuing and Professional Education as Director of Fashion for Executive and Professional Studies,” said Bartlett. “I have such respect and admiration for Parsons’ and The New School’s innovative curriculum, and I’m looking forward to partnering with faculty and staff to create unique and tailored experiences that meet the interests and needs of individuals and organizations.”

Bartlett is a well-known figure in American fashion, having collected major awards over his three decades in the industry, and worked on his namesake label as well as Ghurka, Liz Claiborne, and Byblos. He was also an early adopter and advocate of sustainable design, working with upcycled, recycled or organic materials and using earth-friendly vegan alternatives for leather, wool, and down. He was most recently the director of the Fashion program at Marist College.

“The class of challenges we face in business and society today are at a planetary scale. How we teach design innovation by equipping the next generation of leaders with imagination and resilience is core to our mission at The New School,” said Dr. Mariana Amatullo, Vice Provost and Academic Dean for CPE. “John brings a unique perspective and set of experiences in fashion design, education, and sustainable practices that will amplify our distinctive approach to teaching and learning and help position our programs at the leading edge of fashion education in the context of lifelong learning.”
