We still can’t get over Colombian superstar J Balvin, who took the stage at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in a custom design by CFDA member Willy Chavarria.
One of the most influential voices in contemporary American fashion, Chavarria has built his career on challenging traditional fashion norms while championing inclusivity, representation, and cultural storytelling.
Those values were reflected in Balvin’s look, which featured exaggerated proportions, including oversized turquoise tailored trousers, a vibrant orange shirt, and an oversized yellow tie. The bold color palette captured the energy, excitement, and global spirit of the tournament while showcasing Chavarria’s distinctive design language.
Joined by fellow Colombian artist Ryan Castro, Balvin performed fan favorites including Que Calor, Una a La Vez, and I Like It, bringing a celebratory atmosphere to the opening festivities.
The appearance marks another major football moment for Chavarria, who also collaborated with Adidas on the FIFA World Cup 2026 collection.
The moment further demonstrated the growing influence of American fashion on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
