Issa Rae, one of our all-time favorite actresses, made CFDA history in more ways than one. She was the first black designer to host the CFDA Fashion Awards, and for the occasion, she made a true statement about fashion with the looks she selected for the occasion (and we loved it!).
Working with stylist Jason Rembert, Rae exclusively wore looks from black designers. She kicked off the night with a sparkly midnight blue crystal number made by Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss (another CFDA favorite).
For her opening monologue, Rae changed into a custom Sergio Hudson lime green pantsuit, followed by a sleek, form-fitted red lace-up dress by Shanel Campbell. She concluded the evening with an asymmetrical red and fuchsia gown designed by Victor Glemaud.
Here’s to seeing more from Issa and these talented designers in 2019.
