As I reflect on my first semester of my Textile MFA at Parsons and the world around us, I’ve been constantly interested in how we have ended up where we are in the context of our climate crisis. I find it intriguing how we choose to support some core values more than others, which brings me to a constant thread in my work: sustainability.

In the work that I have explored, sustainability is a practice in consideration that is driven by empathy. When making with empathy for people, practice, our environment, we start designing for a positive, progressive future. This semester, I explored new technologies and crafts that evolve my practice in making innovative textiles and forms that ground people in the natural world of the 21st century.

My generation and I are aware that the planet is rapidly changing. This faces us with being a generation of problem-solvers and doers. As I move forward in the MFA program, I am moving forward with urgency for change, and I question, is sustainability enough?
