Fashion is an industry fueled by discovering newness – especially during New York Fashion Week – and this season, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Intermix have made it quite easy.
Today through Sept. 14, customers can shop the latest from seven CFDA {Fashion Incubator} designers at the Intermix creative retail lab at 810 Washington Street. On Wednesday evening, CFDA and Intermix co-hosted a cocktail to fete the pop-up.
“Intermix has been around for about 25 years now and from the beginning we’ve always supported emerging talent,” Intermix president Jyothi Rao said. “We’re known for being one of the first retailers to take a risk on emerging talent. This is a wonderful way for us to continue that tradition, which is such a part of our DNA.”
Guests sipped champagne and eyed the merchandise – Alix bodysuits dangled in one corner, Brother Vellies heels sat neatly on pink suede shelving in another. Others took in the interviews and behind-the-scenes video footage being streamed in the back of the space which educate customers on each Incubator designer’s backstory and design process.
“It’s so great for us all to be together, to have this home,” said K/LLER Collection’s Katie Deguzman, who sported several of her necklaces over a slouchy knit dress from fellow Incubator designer Ji Oh. “That’s the best part of being a jewelry designer – you can support these other amazing talents.”
“It tells a real story about the Incubator,” Yestadt Millinery’s Molly Yestadt added of the pop-up. “There’s so much talent in here, but we all have our own facets. And that’s what this showcases.”
