Well into Tuesday night’s InStyle party to celebrate new Editor-in-Chief Laura Brown’s launch March issue, DJ Prince put on the Wham! classic Everything She Wants. Having myself worked with Brown a decade or so ago, I feel comfortable to suggest the song title might as well be about her – all with ample smarts and charm.

The Carlyle Hotel’s restaurant was packed with well-wishers surrounding Brown, including co-host Emily Ratajkowski as well as Courtney Love, Lena Dunham, Christina Ricci, Karolina Kurkova, and Debbie Harry. There was no shortage of CFDA Members either. Michael Kors, Nicole Miller, Derek Lam, Maria Cornejo, Monique Lhuillier, Gabriela Hearst, Carolina Herrera, Stacey Bendet, Jennifer Fisher, Sophia Amoruso, and Christian Siriano were among those tipping their hats off to Brown.

The Australia native managed to turn the Carlyle into a cool club—which is just how she seems to have wanted it. As she put it, “The sound of hip hop when I walked into Bemelmans was music to my ears.”
