Transforming their showrooms into a giant dressing room, designers Patric DiCaprio, Claire Sully, and Bryn Taubensee of Vaquera, Telfar’s Telfar Clemens and Chromat’s Becca McCharen-Tran styled each other for the Americans in Paris cocktail – adding to the familial vibe of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund bash during Paris Fashion Week.
Adding to the night’s vibrant mood was the cool display of customized Diesel denim jackets that Diesel asked the designers to make their own. “The best thing about working with the young designers because they can always give something a new spin,” said Diesel North America’s Stefano Rosso, who co-hosted the evening. “We are thinking of doing more with the jackets to give the designers even more exposure.”
Former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners Paul Andrew and Kristopher Brock and Laura Vassar Brock, were joined by supermodels Karen Elson and Karolina Kurkova, CFDA designers Kobi Halperin, Jonathan Simkhai, Aurora James, and Gigi Burris, and Tomorrow London Holdings Ltd CEO and Founder Stefano Martinetto. They and many more toasted the nine designers with Perrier-Jouët while enjoying pastries from Stoney Clove Bakery and hydrating with LIFEWTR.
In addition to Telfar, Chromat, and Vaquera, this year’s Americans in Paris features Ahlem, Victor Glemaud, Ji Oh, Sandy Liang, Area, and RtA.
Emily Ratajkowski came through like a champ for the occasion. When Gigi Hadid got sick and couldn’t make her flight to Paris, the model, actress, and activist stepped in to take Gigi’s place. Ratajkowski looked resplendent in a Brock Collection dress.
“I have a long history with Brock and wore them for the first time at this cocktail two years ago,” she recalled, lauding the Fashion Fund for catapulting emerging talent and noting how she wished for a similar platform to help models who are just starting out.
Kurkova, in a poppy neon yellow knit ensemble by Victor Glemaud, came to support her good friend.
“I’ve known Victor since his days at KCD,” she said. “It can be scary but also courageous and exciting to branch out into another aspect of the business, but if you have a vision and experience, you can make it happen.”
The showroom is open through Monday, October 1, from 11am-6pm. Email americansinparis@kcdworldwide.co.uk to RSVP.
