With the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) new recommendation for all Americans to wear a mask when they leave their homes, the CFDA is asking the industry to help create non-medical ones to sell and/or donate to everyday Americans.
Tory Burch, Anna Wintour and Steven Kolb jointly sent a letter to the CFDA’s entire designer membership as well as its manufacturing community to mobilize more companies to help fill this national need.
The masks should be made of a tightly woven, ideally three-layer, washable material (with the highest thread count you have access to). This will help to have the minimum protective qualities to help slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and not know it from transmitting it to others. Additionally, this type of fabric will allow you to wash it for daily use.
It should be noted that these masks are to be distributed and used primarily for everyday people. Surgical masks, KN95 and N95 masks should continue to be reserved for the use by healthcare workers and other medical first responders.
