Since launching Bode a decade ago, Emily Adams Bode Aujla has developed a distinct DNA for the brand with a following that spans across the globe, including in Japan, where the designer has enjoyed the enduring support of customers and fans.

This Friday, the CFDA member is opening the doors to her first location in Asia: Bode Tokyo. The store, in the Yoyogi-Uehara neighborhood, is on the ground floor of an apartment building.

According to a company statement, “the space was selected as a continuation of our retail vision: neighborhood shops, embedded in residential communities where people and families live, work, and spend their leisure time.”

The store, designed by Green River Project LLC, references the work of late Czech-American architect Antonin Raymond, whose striking institutional buildings in Tokyo have influenced the architectural vernacular of the city. Raymond’s work merged an appreciation for Japanese building practices with Western historical techniques.

The furniture, objects, and decoration referred to the Kennedy Restoration (1961-63) and the works Jackie Kennedy selected to hang in the Oval Office after she consulted with Sister Parish, Stephane Boudin and Winterthur’s Henry du Pont.

The store offers men’s and women’s collections as well as unique designs created with vintage and antique textiles including bras and pillows made with midcentury National Parks souvenir pillowcases, appliquéd tees, and keepsake pieces.

It’s worth a trip!
