How Two Designers Are Supporting the Women’s March on Washington

January 20, 2017

This Saturday is synonymous with the Women’s March on Washington Crowds  will gather to make their voices heard  with the aim to solidify this day in history as a step towards progress.

Support for this cause is widespread. CFDA Member Aurora James of Brother Vellies, designer Ryan Roche, and artist Hugo McCloud created a collection of beanies and sweaters. All proceeds will go directly to support the march.

In an exclusive look published on Tuesday, Vogue.com detailed James’s process from inspiration to execution of the pieces (they were knit by a women’s collective in Nepal and worn by McCloud in his studio to absorb an organic display of pastel paints). “I know how much money it takes to do something,” James told Vogue.com. “We need to make sure they have the resources to be able to pull this off and that when women do try to organize, we support them in monetary ways.”

We asked Roche why actively contributing to this cause was important to her. “This movement is so empowering to us all, young and old. We must come together to voice our values and inspire others to live their lives with intention. We cannot sit quiet.”

James, Roche and McCloud prove that there are creative ways to support this initiative and that the long-term goal of solidarity is one that can be reached by many roads.
