In honor of Giving Tuesday, here’s a look at some of the ways our members use their resources and influence in the fashion industry to give back to their communities.

Brett Heyman

Brett Heyman, who uses accessories as a means of expression in her Edie Parker line, has launched a clutch with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

“It’s simply an acknowledgment of our current climate and of our president, who continuously attacks the media for doing the job that the founders of this country protected and empowered them to do,” Heyman said. “Anyone with a platform and an audience should use it to stand up for what they believe in, especially now.”

Tory Burch

The Tory Burch Foundation has created a Seed Box full of holiday essentials that will be sold through December. 100 percent of net proceeds benefit the Tory Burch Foundation, which empowers women entrepreneurs by providing access to capital, education programs and digital resources.

“My parents raised me to know the importance of giving back,” Burch said. “They taught my three brothers and me to not just stand on the sidelines, but to stand up for what we believe in—and to help others do the same. It is something I hope I have passed along to my three boys. Each one of us has a role to play in building a better world. That is why I started our Foundation, which empowers women entrepreneurs by providing access to capital, education and digital resources.”

Rachel Roy

Rachel Roy has partnered with artisan organizations Gaia for Women and Far + Wide Collective for her Gifts for Good initiative this holiday season. The gift program is part of Roy’s philanthropic platform Kindness is Always Fashionable. The Gifts for Good initiative is a curated guide of personal story telling product that encourages giving and inspires kindness. Every purchase makes a difference in the lives of many and the benefits of the proceeds can be felt as far as Madagascar and as close as Dallas.

“For me, success of my company is defined by the people we can help and the change we can affect,” Roy said. “Our mission with Gifts for Good is to help consumers find products handmade by Artisans and refugees, and in this case, the purchases create a little more good in the world.”
