How Monica Rich Kosann Honors Chris Evert’s Jewelry History

One of jewelry’s legendary moments famously happened during the 1978 U.S. Open, Mid-match, tennis champ Chris Evert’s diamond bracelet flew off her wrist, and she demanded the game was temporarily halted to find it. The incident made the news, and ignited the piece’s informal new moniker, ie. the tennis bracelet. And just like that, jewelry history was made.

Fast forward more than four decades, and Monica Rich Kosann is giving the story back to its original source with authenticity and ample style. The CFDA member has teamed up with Evert on The Tennis Bracelet -CE Collection, a new collection of 13 tennis bracelets available in 18-karat gold with white diamonds from $5,915 – $36,700 and in sterling silver with white sapphires or rock crystal stones  from $725 – $2,715.

Each features CE and MRK markings. “I had admired Monica’s brand for a long time. I love how her jewelry is centered on women empowerment,” the tennis champ said. “I wanted an American woman designer to bring this founding story to life. I also found it so special that Monica Rich Kosann is the only luxury, fine jewelry brand that is a Certified B Corporation. I think it’s important to collaborate with a brand that shares all these values.”

The jewelry designer is known for bringing a new, elegant touch to lockets, charms, and poesy rings – and now tennis bracelets.

“While there have been many fine jewelry tennis bracelets offered for decades, we are proud to be a part of the Tennis Bracelet – CE, that is ‘Finally Authentic’,” Kosann said.

The campaign – which was created and shot by Danielle Kosann, Artistic Director of Monica Rich Kosann – features authentic pieces that Evert wore during her career down to the racquets and sneakers.

Rich Kosann celebrated the new collection in style— on Thursday at the Town Tennis Club with Evert and friends such as Martina Navratilova and Susan Lucci.

“I remember everything about that day,” Evert recalled. “The green court. The white lines. My diamond bracelet and the dripping sweat of competition.”

It’s taken more than 40 years—and it’s long overdue.

TheTennis Bracelet- CE Collection is available at www.monicarichkosann.com, and in the designer’s Columbus Circle and Hudson Yards stores.
