‘HIV Unwrapped’ Continues the Fight Against HIV Through Fashion

For decades, the CFDA has stood at the intersection of fashion, culture, and advocacy—using our platform not only to showcase creativity but also to champion causes that matter deeply to our community.

One of the most enduring commitments in our history has been raising awareness and support in the fight against HIV/AIDS. From early fundraising efforts like Seventh on Sale at the height of the epidemic to the revival of Love Ball III during WorldPride 2019, the CFDA believes that fashion has the power to drive change.

This September, we proudly lend our support to “HIV Unwrapped,” an initiative debuting during New York Fashion Week. Produced by +Life with the support of Gilead Sciences, the event on Sept. 13 at Nexus Club New York brings together Parsons School of Design students and pioneering HIV scientists to create looks inspired by molecular science, human resilience, and the lived experiences of people impacted by HIV, with mentorship from design duo and CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund alumnus Tanner Fletcher.

On World AIDS Day, the story of “HIV Unwrapped” will continue with a broadcast special on Dec. 1, ensuring that the message reaches far beyond the runway.

“I’m thrilled to bring ‘HIV Unwrapped’ to life during New York Fashion Week, because let’s be honest, HIV deserves better PR, and what better way to do that than with fabulous fashion?” said ‘HIV Unwrapped’ executive producer Karl Schmid. “This isn’t just a runway show; it’s a bold statement to smash stigma, spark conversation, and remind the world that HIV is only part of our story. I’m proud to be part of a team turning science into style and compassion into couture – and you won’t want to miss a single stitch.”
