Our Healthy Living series kicks off with model Carolyn Murphy, who recently took part as an ambassador in this year’s CFDA Health Initiative panel in partnership with Equinox. The panel focused on ways models can stay healthy during busy times like NYFW and year-round. Read on for Carolyn Murphy’s pro tips on how to eat, sleep and live a healthy lifestyle.
What’s in your fridge?
I eat whole foods that are in season, usually from the local farmers market. I don’t do trendy fads or diets.
What gets you moving?
My favorite type of exercise is anything outdoors like surfing, hiking, and riding my horse. It’s a little hard to do all that in the city so that’s when I opt for my yoga mat.
Best stretch tip:
My best stretch tip is really basic yoga poses. I do a lot of repetitive sun salutations, cobra pose, downward dog. It’s a great way to start the day.
Number one sleep tip:
A hot bath!
Travel kit staple:
Make sure you carry your Epsom salts.
What’s your “ohm moment?”
I do a lot of body scanning which is basically just checking in and noticing where I’m holding tension in my body, and also a lot of breath work.
What’s in your workout wardrobe?
I love Mara Hoffman’s stuff because it’s colorful and it makes me happy!
Daily dose of goodness:
I try to laugh as much as I can and perform acts of kindness. Just being kind to people — you don’t have to know them — is so important.
