On Monday morning, Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR) and the CFDA partnered on a pop-up showroom for three of HFR’s most promising emerging designers: Fe Noel, Undra [Duncan] Celeste, and Kimberly Goldson.

“Our designers need access and the CFDA is becoming a bridge,” said HFR Founder and CEO Brandice Daniel.

HFR was created in 2007 as a support network for undeserved designers who encounter seemingly impenetrable barriers to entry in the traditional fashion matrix. This predicament is especially true for women of color who have, historically, created popular style trends and been simultaneously excluded from capitalizing on their innovations.

“The sneaker gave us a great push and momentum, so we want to continue to help develop this batch of talent,” Daniel said.

Noel, Duncan, and Goldson co-designed the “HFR x LeBron [James] 16” sneaker. It was the first Nike women’s athletic shoe designed by women; the style sold out within five minutes, and a limited quantity was recently re-released in China.

Michelle Obama wore a Fe Noel ensemble during her “Becoming” stadium book tour. Noel’s design ethos: “Eat well, travel often, dress to inspire.” She specializes in made-to-order, year-round resort wear evocative of her Caribbean heritage. A midi-length slip dress is updated with an arresting print of a painting by the Afro-Cuban painter Harmonia Rosales.

Undra Celeste, meanwhile, has a penchant for Seventies-inspired suiting and sexy knit separates “suitable for all body types.” The brand’s oversize intarsia knit “LOVE” sweater is a popular season-to-season carryover style.

Goldson (with her sister and business partner Shelly Powell) offers classic suiting alongside a kaleidoscope of graffiti-covered sequin separates; sheer and metallic-flecked shirt-dresses for “fly girls who pair their button-down gowns with jeans and Timberland boots”; and vegan lamé leather playsuits for “new moms-on-the-go.”

”Why wait?” added Powell. “Every day is a special occasion.”
