Much-loved milliner and CFDA member Gigi Burris O’ Hara launched her nonprofit, Closely Crafted, last year with the aim to preserve and sustain artisan craftsmanship in the American fashion. Fast forward and on Tuesday evening, Closely Crafted hosted its first fundraiser, celebrating the “impact and value in the American fashion industry” while also amplifying the Move the Needle campaign, which seeks funding for Closely Crafted’s mission of training up-and-coming talent as a means of preserving craft in the U.S.
Joining Burris O’Hara at the Rooftop Bar Blondeau at Wythe Hotel were fellow CFDA members and friends including Maria Cornejo, Hillary Taymour, Alejandra Alonso Rojas, Jonathan Cohen, Dao-Yi Chow, Maxwell Osborne, Gilles Mendel, Jacques Agbobly, Micaela Erlanger, Matthew Adams Dolan, Bailey Moon, Elettra Wiedemann, and Julie Gilhart.
They got to experience the onsite weaving activation, a a 10-foot circular loom with the Brooklyn-based Weaving Hands center, and guests could weave together fabric remnans from brands such as anOnlyChild, Adam Lippes, Alabama Chanin, Bach Mai, Brandon Maxwell, Et Ochs, Gigi Burris Millinery, Jonathan Cohen, Lapointe, and Monse,
Indeed, a moment to celebrate true American craft!
