Getting Ready with Atiana de la Hoya for amfAR’s Virtual Gala

March 5, 2021

NICKY CAMPBELL

Thursday night marked the first ever virtual gala held by amfAR, the annual fundraiser event that draws out some of fashion’s biggest stars. This year, celebrities from across the globe tuned in from the comfort of their couch to support the worthy cause. The event, A Gala For Our Time, honored the scientists, first responders, and frontline workers while raising money for The Fund to Fight COVID-19.

In honor of the special night, we caught up with Atiana de la Hoya, one of the stars in attendance. The rising model and daughter of World Boxing Champion Oscar De La Hoya and Former Miss USA Shanna Moakler was always destined for fashion greatness. Now, she is making a name for herself in the fashion industry. Read more to see how she got ready for the event with some help from CFDA member Tadashi Shoji.

How are you?

I’m doing amazing, thank you!

Tell us about your relationship with fashion. Is this something you’ve always been excited about growing up?

Fashion is almost inevitable to fall in love with. There’s so many ways to express yourself and create within the industry, I couldn’t help but be drawn to it from a young age.

I know you’ve recently worked with brands like Marc Jacobs Beauty and the recent launch of their Leather Mini Tote. What was your experience like working with the brand?

Working with Marc Jacobs has been incredible. I’m so thankful to have such a reputable and respected brand give me the opportunity to create. They truly are such a pleasure to work with and I’m looking forward to future opportunities.

Why are you excited to attend amfAR?

I’m excited given the circumstances of it being virtual due to the pandemic. amfAR is such an incredible organization to support and raise awareness to help end the fight against AIDS. It’s truly an honor to be able to attend and still celebrate and get dressed up while at home. I love that the virtual aspect made it more inclusive this year in real time.

What was the process of selecting your look? What drew you to tonight’s outfit and glam?

Tonight, I was dressed in Tadashi Shoji. Once I selected the gown everything just fell into place.

My vision for tonight was simple and timeless and it was able to come to life by having the most amazing team.

Who are some of your style muses?

I have so many. I find inspiration everywhere from Cher to Gwen Stefani to today’s current off duty model looks. It’s hard to pinpoint favorites!

What designers are you currently loving?

Currently I’ve been loving Prada, Bottega Veneta, Charlotte Knowles, Heaven by Marc Jacobs, Marine Serre, Raf Simons, and Amina Muaddi.

Are there any exciting projects you’re working on this year?

Yes! I can’t wait to share everything I’ve been working on! I’m so excited to watch this year unfold.
