Getting Ready for the 2023 Academy Awards with Ludwig Goransson

It was a big year for Ludwig Göransson. The Swedish composer and producer had two major releases: his work on the score of Pixar’s “Turning Red” and composed the score, produced and co-wrote the soundtrack album, and executive produced the prologue EP for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. The film’s single “Lift Me Up”, which he co-wrote and produced, was performed by Rihanna and earned Göransson an Oscar nomination this year for Best Original Song.

Göransson is no stranger to accolades. He received his first Academy Award and Grammy in 2019 for his work on Black Panther with filmmaker Ryan Coogler, whom the artist has worked alongside since the two met at USC. He also received critical acclaim for his work on the score of hit films “Creed and Fruitvale Station” (also alongside Coogler) as well as the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.”

To attend the 95th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, Göransson knew he had to find the perfect outfit for the occasion. Working with his stylist Megan Bowman Gray, the two quickly landed on Emily Adams Bode Aujla’s brand Bode, the 2023 recipient of the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year award.

My stylist Megan Bowman Gray and I had discussed what would be the right look for the Oscar’s. I loved the idea of wearing something unique, made just for me and when Megan suggested Bode I got really excited! I have worn Bode a lot at events but also in my everyday life, as you can see in the documentary ‘Voices Rising, The Music of Wakanda Forever’ a 3 part miniseries on Disney + on how we created the musical world of Wakanda Forever,” he said.

The look – a custom single button shawl collar tuxedo jacket and trousers complete with an antique floral beaded trim – was truly one of a kind. It was rounded out with a classic fly front tuxedo shirt, grosgrain tie, and the brand’s signature black leather house shoes.

The pressure for Göransson to deliver a fashion look was on since he was nominated alongside former CFDA Fashion Icon Rihanna. Of working with the icon, Göransson said, “It was the most beautiful experience! There was a new kind of conviction and softness to her sound that I’ve never heard before. She has such a strong voice in all of her creative outlets so it’s very inspiring to experience how they all flow in and out of each other so seamlessly.”
