Nicole Benefield only launched her label, Nicole Benefield Portfolio, in 2020, but she comes to the industry with years of experience. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Benefield held senior design positions at a number of top specialty retailers, which allowed her to hone her design aesthetic. Her own line now utilizes her past experience to create a collection of casual yet sophisticated pieces, all while incorporating a sustainable approach.
We caught up with Nicole to learn more about the new Interim CFDA Member.
What does it mean to you to be an Interim CFDA Member?
The film industry has the Oscars, the theater world has the Tonys, the music business has the Grammys and in the realm of fashion, there’s the CFDA. Being an Interim CFDA Member means getting to walk in the path of former mentors and managers who have been a part of the organization for many years. Seeing their accomplishments and embarking on that same level of success brings the journey full circle.
What is one thing you are looking for help with in terms of running your business?
Marketing. I’m finding that what sets brands apart and the leaders in the industry are masters at marketing. Sometimes it’s not what you sell, but how you sell it.
What is one career-defining or ‘pinch me’ moment you’ve had so far?
Getting the email invitation to be an Interim Member of the CFDA! The only thing I had on my radar that day was following up on emails and I still have moments of disbelief in my day to day hustle striving to shape my brand.
How would you describe your label to someone not familiar with the brand?
Nicole Benefield Portfolio is a brand devoted to form and function with a conscious approach. Each phase is a continuous conversation of building a modular wardrobe that’s adaptable, functional, and seasonless. Based in New York, the brand explores the approach of a modern uniform through defined shapes, details and colors, finding a niche where casual meets sophistication.
