October 16, 2025

Ink lovers rejoice! JOOPITER’s new tattoo auction, “Inked: Tattoos by Contemporary Artists,” announces a unique opportunity to get a tattoo by a celebrated contemporary artist.

Now on preview at JOOPITER.com with global bidding from Oct.22-31 and curated by Friend of the CFDA Sharon Coplan Hurowitz, the 16 participating artists represent a cross-section of art, fashion and design, including works by our CFDA members Thom Browne and Gabriela Hearst. The proceeds of Browne’s artwork will benefit the CFDA.

Derrick Adams, Sarah Andelman, Jeffrey Gibson, Haroshi, Stephen Jones, Titus Kaphar, Joel Mesler, Marilyn Minter, Peter Marino, Dr Woo, Adam Pendleton, Tavares Strachan and the late Lawrence Weiner’s work will also be available.

Select works from the auction will be previewed at Dover Street Market Paris coinciding with Art Basel Paris, offering a rare opportunity to view these editions in person before they are acquired and, ultimately, transferred onto skin.

At the center of the project is the reissue of a tattoo by Weiner, created during his lifetime and released by his estate, which gestures toward a longer history of artists working with the body as both surface and site.

“With Lawrence Weiner’s historic tattoo project as my starting point, it has been an honor to work with this illustrious group of artists to bring Inked: Tattoos by Contemporary Artists to life with Joopiter,” Coplan, curator and publisher of “Tattoos by Contemporary Artists” said. “This project offers collectors a unique way of engaging and living with art designed for the body. I want to extend my gratitude to the artists for their trust and for generously making this project possible.”

Each unique design will be released with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and any artist-provided instructions for application by a tattooer. One edition of each design will be auctioned individually through JOOPITER, while a full set will be reserved for institutional donation. Artists will also retain an Artist’s Proof and have the option to direct a portion of their proceeds to a charity of their choice.
