All eyes were on Dr. Jill Biden on January 25th, 2021. It was presidential inauguration day, and her husband, Joe Biden, was sworn into office as she stood by.

For the daytime inaugural ceremony, the First Lady picked a custom blue wool tapered tweed dress with a matching overcoat designed by Alexandra O’Neil of Markarian. For evening, Dr. Biden opted for a ivory silk wool cady dress and cashmere coat from CFDA member Gabriela Hearst. Now, those looks are officially a part of history.

This week, the Smithsonian added these two inaugural ensembles to their First Ladies Collection. For more than a hundred years, the First Ladies Collection has been one of the most popular attractions at the Smithsonian. “The First Ladies” exhibition features 27 dresses and more than 160 other objects, and includes White House state china settings, personal posessions and artifacts from the Smithsonian’s unique collection of first ladies’ materials.

We are proud to see the work of two American designers front and center at the exhibition. Check out the museum in Washington D.C. today!
