One of the many great things about CFDA Members is how they take action for causes that are important to them. Case in point, Cosabella’s Guido Campello. He created a garment for post-op patients to benefit Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Here, the designer talks about the importance of raising awareness and funds for a disease we all hope to eradicate.
Why is Fashion Targets Breast Cancer important to Cosabella?
Cosabella has always followed Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and now, as a member of the CFDA, we wanted to create something to ensure we could leave our mark on the heritage of FTBC. We created the Happie bra, with proceeds from the bra in Deep Ruby going back to FTBC.
What is your greatest FTBC memory or experience?
A few years ago, FTBC and the CFDA brought together the designer lingerie community by creating a project with a common goal and interest for everyone to band together and get involved. This was my first experience with FTBC.
How do you see fashion and philanthropy intersecting?
The two intersect by creating a conversation, a visual, a feeling that can bring awareness to an issue within the community. [It has] the ability to inject beauty and comfort at a time and a place where those things can be hard to find.
Tell us about the Happie post-op bra and the inspiration behind it?
The direct inspiration was my mother Valaria Campello. Her post-op experience brought to light many issues from a practical side and an emotional standpoint. It’s in these private times where a woman is meant to feel the most beautiful, [but] she’s lacking the garments to help enhance her beauty.
How will you continue to create awareness for initiatives that are important to you?
By challenging myself to continue to create these items that can create a conversation, and hoping that creating a conversation one day can lead to creating a cure. The garments we create help these women find the beauty within themselves in those most private times.
