For the fifth consecutive year, Kerry O’Brien of Commando is supporting Fashion Targets Breast Cancer by donating $5 for each sale on Wearcommando.com. CFDA sat down with O’Brien to discuss the importance of philanthropy in fashion.
Why is supporting Fashion Targets Breast Cancer important?
As an intimate apparel brand, the impact of this disease on women’s lives hits very close to home. Breast cancer, tragically, affects so very many of us. We’re deeply committed to FTBCs mission of education, awareness, and treatment.
How do you see fashion and philanthropy intersecting?
Fashion is such an integral part of our daily lives, and it has the capacity to reach people on a level that not all industries can. Now more than ever, consumers have the ability to “wear” their values.
How will Commando continue to raise awareness for causes that are important to the brand?
We aim to have our values reflected in the decisions we make every day and the manner in which we run our business. For instance, we purchase fabrics from suppliers who have environmentally responsible practices, then we cut and sew all of our garments domestically where we have more visibility into employee treatment and wages.
