“I’m just checking,” said Francisco Costa, with a sheepish smile, as he was looking at Kehinde Wiley’s “After Sir Anthony Van Dyck’s ‘La Roi A La Chasse’” on one of the several iPads stationed for bidding at a Tribeca Penthouse Tuesday night.
The Calvin Klein Collection women’s creative director and CFDA President and CEO Steven Kolb were celebtating the CFDA + Paddle8 Art x Fashion auction, which features works selected by 20 CFDA Members – including Costa — and benefits the CFDA Foundation, Inc.
Paddle8 co-founder Alexander Gilkes, Barry and Cheryl Schwartz, Stacey Bendet, Siki Im, Reed Krakoff, Cleo Wade, Michelle Smith,Robert Burke, Sara Beltran, Lizzie Fortunato, Nanette Lepore and Laurie Lynn Stark were just some of the names who came out to fete the auction. It was also a small CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund reunion with 2015 designers Aurora James, Rio Uribe, Brad Schmidt and Raul Arevalo, and David Hart on hand.
The modernist venue – still on the market — had some designers swooning. “It’s beautiful, $30 million worth of beautiful,” said Misha Nonoo.
Gigi Burris had different plans for the space. “I think the CFDA should buy it and turn it into a homeless shelter for up-and-coming designers like myself,” she said.
The Art x Fashion auction runs through Nov.19 at http://paddle8.com/auction/artxfashion.
