When a fabulous dress walks the red carpet, the first thought is never that it’s washable or easy to care for, and if it is, the thought is never that it’s designer. Two events in the last week have proved that train of thought wrong. Tide collaborated with CFDA Members Juan Carlos Obando and Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis of SUNO on a completely washable red carpet look.
For the CFDA Fashion Awards, model Luisa Espinosa wore a 100 percent washed crepe de chine dress. Obando explained the process: first, the fabric was washed with Tide Free & Gentle. After tumble drying, the fabric has a soft and supple feel, yet the textile achieved a texture that displayed the richness of the fabric. The garment was then cut and sewn, followed by a post sewn–press pleated process. Lastly, the garment got twisted for a few minutes and the washed and pleated garment acquired the sun–balmed, textured, tropical effect. The end result: a red carpet stunner that brings to mind garments found in coastal towns along the Caribbean and South America.
Later that same week, actress Jamie Chung wore the washable SUNO for Tide dress while hosting the Art of the Magnum event in New York City. The SUNO for Tide dress is 100 percent washable andretails for $595.
