On Wednesday morning, the 10 Finalists of the 2017 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund had their first moment with the judges. As is tradition, they came together at Milk Studios to present five looks—and there were plenty of highlights. Telfar’s Telfar Clemens, for example, showed the first garment he ever produced in 2005; Jordan Askill set himself apart with several handmade sculptures he brought along for the occasion, while the Vaquera quartet – Patric DiCaprio, Bryn Taubensee, David Moses and Claire Sully – presented their version of the American flag dress. The other designers –  Chromat’s Becca McCharen-Tran, DYNE’s Christopher Bevans, Victor Glemaud, Ahlem’s Ahlem Manai-Platt, Mateo’s Matthew Harris, RtA’s Eli Azra, and Sandy Liang – equally impressed.

The judges on hand – Steven Kolb, Eva Chen, Joseph Altuzarra, Jeffrey Kalinsky, Roopal Patel, Andrew Rosen, Mark Holgate, and Nicole Phelps – opined on the looks, asked questions, and prepared them for the journey that culminates on Nov.6 when the winner and two runners-up will be selected and celebrated at a gala dinner.
