There’s a new group of Editors-in-Chiefs in town and on Tuesday evening, Steven Kolb and Diane von Furstenberg invited CFDA designers to raise a toast to them.
Leave it to our Chairwoman to deliver the perfect introduction to them.
“The year started with a lot of things going on in the world,” von Furstenberg said. “It’s very difficult and at the same time very interesting. Everything goes so fast, faster than one can explain or imagine. We are all surfing this world of fashion. We are all reinventing how we communicate. Everything will be AI. Everything will be machines. Our only hope is figure out how we can seduce the machines.”
No need to seduce the new EICs – Hanya Yanagihara, Nina Garcia, Samantha Barry, Whitney Robinson, and Phillip Picardi were instantly smitten with the fashion legend (Vanity Fair’s Radhika Jones was traveling and could not attend the cocktails).
So were the guests, which included Carolina Herrera, Kenneth Cole, Sander Lak, Anna Wintour, Liya Kebede, Maria Cornejo, Stuart Vevers, Nanette Lepore, Becca McCharen-Tran, Laura Kim, Fernando Garcia, Prabal Gurung, Cynthia Rowley, Mara Hoffman, Veronica Swanson Beard, Stellene Volandes, Veronica Miele Beard, Naeem Khan, Robert Geller, and Mimi So. Many were meeting the new editors – who are in charge T, Elle, Elle Décor, Glamour, and Teen Vogue – for the first time.
“I was very impressed with all the choices,” Lisa Perry said. “I love that they were out of the box.”
As the evening progressed, the spirit became increasingly celebratory, which perfectly suited Stacey Bendet Eisner. “Some people dress from day to night,” she said. “I dress from day to disco.” And who doesn’t love that?
