Who is fashion rooting for to win Super Bowl 50? That depends on whom you ask. On Wednesday night, CFDA Members gathered at the NFL’s Manhattan headquarters to celebrate the 50 Bespoke Designers Footballs that are now for auction here.
“I was rooting for the Seahawks, but they already lost,” shrugged Robert Geller.
Nicole Miller said she always roots for an underdog, “so that would be either the Panthers or the Cardinals.”
Trust Betsey Johnson to come up with her own specific team to root for — “the Gisele-and-Tom team,” she said. “I was a cheerleader of football and basketball for nine years. I have to go for the good-looking guy or the ones with the great hair. I love the guys who are into that. It’s very important. Otherwise, the girls won’t watch, unless they have to because they are with their boyfriends.”
Others admiring the footballs on display included Todd Snyder, Gayle King, Dascha Polanco, Billy Reid, Marcus Wainwright, Paul Andrew, Eva Zuckerman, Rebecca Minkoff, Johannes Huebl and Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs.
“Jennifer Meyer’s football with the stars was my favorite,” said Rachel Roy, explaining that her daughter Ava’s boyfriend is a quarterback so “football is very important in my house. If he likes one of the footballs, I will obviously bid.”
Gigi Burris expects her mother to bid on her design. “She won the Tumi bag for ‘Americans in Paris,’ the milliner recalled. “I also loved Jennifer Fisher’s football with the Golden Gate charm.” As for her favorite team, Burris hesitated. “I really love football mostly for the snacks,” she admitted, “but my boyfriend and I love the Saints.”
