Rebecca Taylor knows just what it’s like to have to balance the roles of mother and entrepreneur, which she says has made her into a stronger woman than she already was. We caught up with Taylor to find out about her career, personal life and goals for the future.

What is one piece of advice that you would give someone who is at the start of their career?

Honestly, I think you have to be very simple-minded.  There will be many people telling you how hard it is and what to do. People will offer some advice that is good and some that is bad, but ultimately it’s just you and your vision.  You have to trust your gut.

Who is your most admired cultural heroine? Why?

I have always been drawn to strong humans – women in particular because I can identify with them in a more personal way.  Ruth Ginsberg is amazing. I have so many role models it’s hard to narrow the field.

What moment, in your career or personal life, are you most proud of?

Raising my three children is obviously a big one for me.  My eldest said the other night, “Am I tucking you in or are you tucking me in?” It’s interesting how the roles start to turn.  I am allowing myself to feel proud at the moment.  I feel very fortunate to have a wealth of community around me.

Women’s roles in society have changed dramatically over the past several decades. How have these changes had a personal impact on you?

While I do appreciate all the hard work and various movements that have fought for women’s equality, I feel we still have a ways to go.  Until we are treated equally, we cannot rest on our laurels.

What future goals do you have for yourself?

I would really like to keep learning and evolving. Creating on today’s fashion cycle can leave you feeling depleted. I need to read more, see more, and feel more.  I definitely want to keep learning about how technology can impact the fashion industry.
